I wondered about the significance of 80-08-08 so I did a little digging around.  I really did not find much aside from a few tidbits.

For example, a lot of people have decided that this day is lucky and will be getting married today.  I wish them luck in their marriage.

The Chinese hold the date with some reverence; eight (ba) is a homonym of the Mandarin word for prosperity (fa).  This is why they have chosen to start the Olympics on 08-08-08 at 8:08 PM.  I believe they are hoping for a great and prosperous run of the 2008 Olympics.

I do believe that the day is lucky.  For example, I found that I have a good case of the late summer lazies.  I just don’t want to work; lo and behold I ended up with an extremely light schedule today.

This gave me opportunity to clean up some of the links on my blog and to check out Hobo Springs which I have really have not looked at for a few months.

Wow, it has changed!  First of all I would like to extend a warm welcome to Alexander.  I have added links to his blog A Little Off Main.  I do like the fact that the Springs will now allow political commentary.  I may start to shadow post some of my commentary to double my pleasure and double my fun.

Sancho has gone part-time on his blogging.  I guess he decided this some time ago.  I guess I don’t blame him; there are days that I have thought about the same thing and perhaps going part-time may be in my future.  But we will see how it goes.

Well, I have rambled enough for one day.  Perhaps you will see me in two places from now on.

As is in Waukesha, if you don’t know someone, you know someone who does…. and so it goes, I know someone who knows an Alderman.  Waukesha is planning strategically to… well, it’s not entirely clear, but it looks like someone up at City Hall wants their ego stroked as to what they’ve done well and perhaps maybe would like to know what they can improve… but it appears they are looking for answers to questions that need to be asked and asking questions they can’t answer themselves.

There’s one for the common council, one for taxpayers and one for City of Waukesha Business Stakeholders (Is that a committee too?) So unless you are a stakeholder or on the common council, you’d have to speak your onions on the taxpayer version. Oh, not to worry, all 3 surveys are the same. I guess city hall just wants to keep the voices separate.

It’s not an easy survey, there’s no mulitple choice. I’m sure the answers on this version will include current favorites, railroad whistles, ballparks in frame park and pot hole. Other long time favorites might include money spent or continuing to be spent on the library, funding park rec concerts or water woes, both too much water, and too much radium. In any case, I can’t see how this survey will give city hall any real answer to the questions they ask. The questions are too vague. It seems to me a true survey from the city to it’s taxpayers would have specific questions and be mailed to each taxpayer, perhaps along with a tax bill to avoid additional postage budgeting.

It will be nice to see if a master plan can be drawn for this survey. Does the city have a 10 year master plan? The last few years seem to be more of ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ plan.

Hi All,
Because the population of people I work with have compromised immune systems my agency was on the short list of organizations that were contacted by the statewide CDC. Testing is currently being done on Milwaukee County’s water, it will not be completed for three to four days. The CDC believes that there will be significant amounts of cryptosporidium found in the water. For this reason they are contacting agencies like mine, and hospitals and asking that they urgently notify their clients and patients to not to drink the water. This is not being made public yet because they don’t know how bad it will be, and they don’t want to cause a public panic. (deleted).
That being said, please know that it is assumed that there will be serious infections statewide. People will not be warned until testing confirms this, at which time all of us will have consumed a lot of the ‘bad’ water. The CDC is recommending that people drink bottled water or boil water for at least 5 minutes. If you live in Milwaukee County, or have family and friends who do please be aware of this concern and avoid drinking the water.

When I tried to get “a Little off Main” on the Blog News Network I recieved this email from David Mastio of BNN.

“We only add blogs that are at least three months old, so if you’ll email me when you’ve hit that milestone, I’ll go visit your site then.“

And because I think everyone is out to get me, I now think the BNN is in the pocket of the Republican Party and they don’t want me getting my “McCain” on. But that cant be right, they DO have lib sites on. Now I’m confused. When I signed up La Raza, it took a few emails and about 4 days. When I signed up Hobo, it took a bunch of emails and about a week of waiting. Now I’m trying to get “a Little off Main” on and it looks like it aint going to happen for three months.
Sheesh, I’ve been around politicians too long to believe that the timing of my new site, my views of McRino, and chickenshi# republican bloggers don’t all have something to do with this.
So now what? Well, Mr. Mastio, you keep on waiting for that email.

Yes I now live on Interstate 83 in Wales. I’m so happy about that. When I saw the report yesterday about I94 not opening for weeks I just about crapped my pants. It’s already almost impossible to make a left turn on to 83 the way it was before the floods but now….SHEESH!!!! The backups extend at least 2 miles north of the Hwy18/83 intersection on the south bound side. I am looking forward to the opening of the construction style cross-over lanes that will allow the real Interstate to open back up but until then it’s banging dump trucks and engine braking for everyone in Wales.
